Student Injured in Colorado College Campus Accident

A 20-year-old Colorado Springs student was recently struck and dragged by a car while crossing the street. The pedestrian accident occurred at a crosswalk on Cascade Ave. near the Colorado College campus. Officials say the student was waiting at a crosswalk at the time of the accident. It is unclear from the report if the student was seriously injured or if the driver will be cited for the crash.

Student Injured in Colorado College Campus AccidentThe neighborhood around Colorado College where this crash took place was the site of four pedestrian accidents in the past year. Now, the city is working on a project to improve safety for students and local residents. Officials say they will have concept designs for the project in the spring.

Whenever a pedestrian is injured in or near a crosswalk, it must be determined why the driver failed to yield the right-of-way. Under Colorado law:

  • Drivers are required to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at crosswalks.
  • Drivers approaching crosswalks may not drive through if other vehicles have stopped to let a pedestrian cross.
  • Pedestrians have the right-of-way at intersections that have stop signs or flashing red lights

A driver who fails to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk is responsible for the crash and can be held accountable for the victim’s injuries. If you have been injured in a Colorado Springs pedestrian accident, you may be able to pursue compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, and other related damages.
